8th grade: Mrs. Boehmer
By Paxton Dionne and Bryce Johnston
Mrs. Boehmer is an 8th grade ELA teacher at Doughty. She has 20 years of teaching experience, 19 of them being here at Doughty. Mrs. Boehmer first wanted to be a child psychologist when she was little, but she says that you get to see into a child’s brain in a different way as a teacher. As a kid she grew up with one older brother and liked playing outside, riding her bike, and pretty much any sport you could play in your backyard. Reading was her alternative when she couldn’t go outside on the rainier days. This lead to her becoming an excellent English Language Arts teacher. She has loved working kids for as long as she could remember and even though she wanted teach at a high school level, she decided to teach lower grades because she wanted to see more development in her students. When she became a teacher, she was happy with her choice of middle school and she has loved working with the accelerated group. There is only one thing she does not like about teaching, the paperwork. There is a lot of paperwork in becoming a teacher and when you are a teacher you have papers to correct most of the time and correcting papers over and can become strenuous. Mrs. Boehmer enjoys sports especially noncompetitive sports like hiking, kayaking, cross country, skiing, etc. She played tennis in high school but there weren't a lot of opportunities for women’s sports. However, now there are many different programs for women's and men’s sports alike and she believes that the school should spread out to less competitive or even noncompetitive sports like those that she enjoys. Mrs. Boehmer also loves dogs and had two dogs at different times. She had one named Patsy and one named Meika. She’s loved dogs ever since and right now she has a yellow lab named Carly. And while she loves dogs she says he favorite animal has to be the moose. When she was in high school she saw one out in the woods. She also likes to spend times outside in the wild in places like the forest. Her favorite meal she has to say is lobster with corn on the cob and mashed potatoes. And because we know some of you want to know, yes, we asked. She has an iPhone. She has an iPhone SE that is rose gold. And while she has an iPhone she does not use social media, and her children are appalled. She mostly uses technology for educational purposes such as Kahoot, Quizlet, etc. She believes that children should have a form of communication, but she is worried about the amount of time people spend on their phones. It has harmful effects not just physically but with relationships and families. She believes that kids should be allowed to go to social media on their free time, but it shouldn’t be the majority of their time and everyone should take a break every now and then. Overall, Mrs. Boehmer is an amazing teacher at our school. She and all of the teachers and staff of Doughty should be recognized for all of the hard work that they do so we can have a better education.
